Long biography

Extended version, for programme notes

Amadeu de Oliveira was born in Spain and comes from Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal. He holds a degree from the Badajoz conservatory and was trained in three distinct pianistic traditions — Russian, Spanish and Franco-Polish — whose sum defines his sound: the arm weight of the first, the rhythmic articulation of the second, and the treatment of colour and pedal of the third.

Across more than forty years he has performed in seventeen countries and three continents, as soloist, in chamber music and with orchestra, in a repertoire running from Bach to the contemporary and including regular work with opera and with fado. He speaks Portuguese, Spanish, French and English.

His current artistic project centres on the eighteenth-century Iberian keyboard repertoire — Domenico Scarlatti, Antonio Soler and Carlos Seixas — presented both in recital and in the commented concert format Conversas ao Piano. In Leiria, a UNESCO Creative City of Music, he founded and directs PianoCenter, a professional piano arts centre, where he applies his own Método Amadeus.

Technical

Technical requirements

The full technical rider is sent on request and varies with the ensemble. The requirements that hold in every case are these: a grand piano tuned on the day of the performance, an adjustable bench, music-stand lighting independent of house lighting, and access to the instrument early enough for a room rehearsal.

Where the venue has no instrument of its own, hire, specialised transport and tuning are secured by the production and identified separately in the proposal.
